Chemotherapy of Severe Cavitary Pulmonary Tuberculosis with Polyresistant Bacteria

Abstract

|
Author investigated the effect of polychemotherapy using 6 to 7 drugs combined for patients with severe cavitary pulmonary tuberculosis. All the 56 patients had been treated with all of generally used anti-tuberculous drugs and still showed positive sputum for tubercle bacilli. Of these patients 3 o were male and 20 were female. Their age ranged from 22 to 63 years old, and the average was 38. Duration of the disease was 11 years in the average. It was concluded
1) Multiple drug chemotherapy u sing 6 to 7 drugs for 5 to 20 months showed favorable results in 51.8 percent of the 56 patients.
2) Combined chemotherapy using 4 to 5 drugs for same period showed favorable result in 28.8 percent of the 52 patients.
